Here is a short note from Andrea...
For your information. Important details on the results of the November Special Session. Thanks to Rep. Nelson and all our Central Florida Legislators for their tremendous support making sure the inspections were delayed and that financial oversight on rulemaking became a reality. Please pass along to your e-mail circles.
My personal thanks to all my neighbors and friends for your unwavering and energetic efforts to reach out to our local and state representatives, for your attendance at meetings, and for your encouragement this past year.

New Watering

Hi Everybody, here is some information on the new watering for the winter.... Dave

Know Your Days

Mandatory lawn watering restrictions specify the days when you may water. These days depend on whether you have an odd or even numbered address, and the time of year.

Odd numbered homes...... Saturday
Even numbered homes..... Sunday

Christmas Hints

Can you believe it, I am putting out information for the upcoming Christmas season, where did the year go..... Dave

TreesWhen purchasing an artificial tree, look for the label
“Fire Resistant.”
When purchasing a live tree, check for freshness
because a fresh tree is less of a fire hazard. The tree
should be green, needles are hard to pull from
branches and when bent between your fingers,
needles do not break. The trunk butt should be sticky
with resin, and when tapped on the ground, the tree
should not lose many needles.
Cut a few inches off the trunk of your tree to
expose the fresh wood. This allows for better water
absorption and will help to keep your tree from
drying out and becoming
a fire hazard. When setting up a
tree at home, place it away from fireplaces,
radiators or portable heaters. Place the tree
out of the way of traffic and don’t allow it to
block doorways. Be sure to keep the
stand filled with water, because heated rooms
can dry live trees out

Main Entrance During School

I am putting this on both of the Blogs because it is very important, not just for the safety of our residences of Bent Oak, but for the children. The main entrance is getting to be a very big problem, again, with the parking to pick up and drop off the children for school. The school is set up just for that, so why not use it. I have been getting e-mails and phone calls in this mater, so please do Bent Oak, and the children a favor, use the school. It is for the safety of our residences also, because if we need an emergency vehicle here, and they can’t get passed the parked cars, it could cost someone their life. So please be more considerate of your neighbors.…. Dave

THIS COULD SAVE A LIFE

This is very important concerning CPR, please take the time to look at it.... Dave

Please watch video and share!

This is the new CPR technique which is much simpler.
Very well worth 5 minutes to watch.
You may be able to save a life.

Interesting to note that certification is not required.

If you haven't seen this, you should. If you have seen it, it won't hurt to see it again.

BEAR IN BENT OAK

Hi Everybody,
This is going to surprise some of you, but I have had some reports of a Bear and a Fox in Bent Oak. Is what is happening is, they are looking for food, and if you leave out food in your trash cans or in pet food dishes they can smell that from a long way off, so try to secure your cans or move them in your garage. They are creatures of habit and will return to the same location if they find food. Please what ever you do, DO NOT FEED THEM, or get close to them to take a picture, remember they are wild animals and can hurt you. They are coming from Wekiwa Springs State Park, so in time they will return. If you see any of them, just stay clear. Please keep me posted if you hear, or see them. They are primarily nocturnal, so they will be on the move at night. Take care, and be safe....... Dave

Septic Tank Update

Update from Andrea, thank you Andrea..... Dave

I know it’s been really quiet for a while….almost too quiet. I don’t have all the details yet, but I will share with you what we do know:

PHASE II study money is IN THE BUDGET!!!! This allows the Department of Health to continue the work of field testing passive alternatives, performance-based systems, and compile cost/benefit data. More on this later in the sludge report (www.thesludgereport.org).

Senate Bill 550. Enormous changes to the original bill were in process and in negotiations for many weeks, and many of the mandates that affected us were dropped altogether. There is only one section in the bill that affects us directly, inspections every five years. The great news is there is no ambiguous language regarding inspections that will be misinterpreted in order to force PBTS. Simple, straightforward evaluations and periodic pump outs.
Also dropped, the Springs Protection component of SB550. This is especially good news for those in the “primary” (i.e., closest to the Spring) area. Again, I will post more to the sludge report as I get it.

99.9% DONE! The Governor’s signature is the other 1%. He has 30 days from the end of session to sign off.

PLEASE WRITE GOVERNOR CRIST AND URGE HIM TO PASS BUDGET LINE ITEM 1755A. The
PHASE II Study of Septic Systems and Alternatives is critical information that
Will make sure the scarce resources of citizens and government alike
are spent on those improvements that are necessary, effective in protecting the environment,
and cost effective.
Charlie.Crist@eog.myflorida.com

Senators and Representatives all over the state had a hand in making sure our priorities were supported. Take this opportunity to thank them for their unwavering support and diligence. They really had your back!!!!

Andrea

Be sure to check www.thesludgereport.org for updates, details, legislator contact information, and more. AND THANK YOU for all your efforts!!!

Heart Attacks

Here is some information that may help.... Dave
Something that we can do to help ourselves. Nice to know.
Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve under the tongue. They work much faster than the tablets.
Why keep aspirin by your bedside?
About Heart Attacks

There are other symptoms of an heart attack besides the pain on the left arm.
One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating, however these symptoms may also occur less frequently.
Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack.. The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.

If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water.
Afterwards:
CALL 911
- say "heart attack!"
- say that you have taken 2 aspirins..
- phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by
- take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and...
~ DO NOT lie down ~

Please check it out. www.thesludgereport.org. We will be updating it on a continual basis, and for so many reasons, it’s going to be an extremely active legislative session, so check it often. INFO FROM ANDREA

I got this from Andrea, this is good information.... Dave

The EPA has proposed a new rule regarding Numeric Nutrient Criteria (NNC) for Florida’s waters. You can read the rule and supporting documentation at http://www.epa.gov/waterscience/standards/rules/florida/.

The EPA is holding a public meeting for the new rule on Wednesday, February 17 from 1:00pm to 10:00pm at the Crowne Plaza Orlando Universal. In order to attend and make comments at this meeting you are encouraged to register at the link above.

The DEP is also holding a public meeting on the issue 8:30am-12:30pm Tuesday, February 23rd at the Wyndham Orlando Resort.

We are very concerned about these new water quality regulations. The economic impacts from the proposed regulations will be devastating and far outweigh any environmental benefits. EPA is rushing into rulemaking that is not scientifically based and will result in higher operating and cleanup costs that may not be effective in producing healthier, ecologically sound surface waters.

We have prepared a draft statement (below) you may wish to send to the EPA, the DEP and Governor Charlie Crist. Of course please change or write something different to most accurately reflect your opinion on the subject.

You may submit your comments to the EPA online here (click Submit A Comment next to the rule), to the DEP by emailing eric.shaw@dep.state.fl.us and to Governor Crist by emailing charlie.crist@myflorida.com. When you send them, please copy us (fred.brummer@ocfl.net and sarah.fowler@ocfl.net) in order that we can submit a statement that includes the number of comments you have sent.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Thank you,
